Ever since gamers started putting LEDs in computer cases, peripheral manufacturers have felt pressure to glam up their mice with a dazzling array of customizable LEDs. It doesn’t really feel like a premium mouse. There’s a slot underneath for an optional weight, but even with the extra 10 grams, the G403 feels insubstantial.
It feels very light, and frankly a little cheaper than its price tag would suggest. When it comes to the weight, the G403 was engineered to be light, so we can’t fault it for that but it does have an undeniably ‘plasticky’ feel. Rest assured though, we checked and the G403 does not have any bees inside, it’s just probably a side-effect of those custom tensioned springs underneath the right and left buttons.

If you pick it up and move it, chances are it’ll buzz at you like it’s full of bees. However, it’s worth noting that the mouse has an unpleasant habit of buzzing at you if you tap it against a hard surface like a tabletop. It looks familiar, it feels familiar, even if you’ve never used a gaming mouse. The overall shape of the G403 was engineered to be familiar, and in that respect it’s a resounding success. Over time, the buttons can deform from long-time use. Compare to the unibody design on most Razer and Roccat mice, where the buttons are part of the plastic shell of the mouse.

Logitech is quick to point out that the buttons are the real deal – they’re the same ones used on their Pro line of gaming mice, with custom-tensioned springs and detached plastic that will not warp over time.
They’re responsive and produce a satisfying click, they’re also really fast, quick enough for competitive gaming. The two primary buttons, the left and right click, feel sharp and snappy. The two thumb-side buttons are positioned well, toward the top of the left side, just out of the way enough to avoid accidental clicks and close enough to your thumb that they’re easy to press without reaching. The matte finish feels good in your hand, and doesn’t attract fingerprints. It’s understated and stylish without being ostentatious – you could use this thing in the office and nobody would bat an eye. Both of which are programmable via the Logitech Gaming Software, but we’ll come back to that. The Logitech G403 just barely flirts with ‘gaming gear’ conventions by jazzing up its matte black finish with RGB LEDs under the G logo and the scroll wheel. It’s utilitarian but not very approachable, and feels a bit wide in the hand. It’s a stark contrast against other popular gaming mice like the Razer Naga, which boasts 12 buttons and a more unconventional shape. Logitech employs a classic design for the G403 that feels natural and familiar, with a slightly tapered grip where your thumb and ring finger rest on the mouse, it glides across most surfaces with ease. Gaming mice are often defined by their exotic shapes, but the Prodigy line takes things back to basics. The G403 is the centerpiece of this outreach effort, but can Logitech reach such a broad audience with a single product line? Stylish and understated By reducing the number of buttons and evoking a classic design, the venerable peripheral company hopes to attract the elusive casual crowd without sacrificing their hardcore gaming pedigree. The software is idiot proof as far as I can tell.The G403 is a part of the new Prodigy line from Logitech, reportedly engineered to make high-end gaming gear more approachable.

I need to figure out a way to make the Logitech client to update the mouse with my custom profile. Also the macros are on the on board memory of the mouse. Logitech's client overrides anything I change. *I am not looking for a executable mouse macro like "Mini Mouse Macro" I want to bind a macro to left and right buttons on my G403Įdit: Update, I found an xml of the mouse profile, I can edit macros manually for any button I choose. If anyone knows of third party software or a work around in Logitech's software please share. The left and right buttons on the G403 can be switched which suggests that they are programmable. Looking through the files I could not find editable xml or config files which you could manually script a macro (like you could with some of the older Logitech drivers). I wrote an email to Logitech support and they haven't responded (after two months). Except for one thing, using Logitech's crap software I cannot bind macros to left or right click (this could be done with the 303). I recently (2 months ago) bought myself a G403 mouse and it is superior in every way to the G303 (used the 303 for over a year).
